Consider Shadows of the Past

| Friday, October 14, 2011 | |
In this post we’re gonna take a look at things in the past that point to events to take place in the future. You can think of the shadows of the past as being a prototype or a trial run until the authentic one is created. It’s kind of like having blue prints before you build the building. If you take a look at this scripture from the book of Zechariah, I’ll show you what I mean.

Zechariah 3 (click here to read and/or here to listen)

I’m not an expert or anything but I’ll do the best I can. I’ve learned a lot the last couple years. It was really exciting when I noticed and I just wanted to share it.

First, Joshua, which is a variant of Jeshua, in Hebrew you pronounce “J’s” like “Y’s”. So what name do you get? Yeshua, which is Hebrew for Jesus!

Then, when it talks about the dirty clothes being made clean, it reminds me of Jesus, how he was outwardly human but was the spirit of God internally.

Whenever you read the Old Testament and you see the phrase, “My servant the branch,” they’re talking about the Messiah, which is Jesus of Nazareth or Yeshua if you prefer.

Jesus definitely walked in obedience and kept all the Lord’s requirements and fulfilled them. If you read the New Testament, in the book of Hebrews, chapter 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 13, you read about Jesus being the Great High Priest.

One last thing I noticed, where it talks about the rock with seven eyes, I remember where it talks about Jesus being the stone the builders rejected as well as the rock a sure foundation. You can find that in these scriptures. Matthew 21, Mark 12, and Luke 20. And if you look in Revelation chapter 5, it mentions a lamb with seven eyes, which is a picture of Yeshua, our Messiah, who has already come and will return. Let’s take a look at the scripture where it gives good eye-witness account of these things being fulfilled.

Acts 2:34-48
34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
39 “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.
Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
I’ll leave you with this last scripture.

Jude 1:17-25
17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18 They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.
20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
22 Be merciful to those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.
24 To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— 25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
