Consider The Power Of Music

| Friday, July 8, 2011 | |
Have you ever taken the time to stop and think about the power music has in our lives? It’s like everywhere and you can’t get away from it! It can be good for you and sometimes it can be bad for you. It can make you feel happy or sad or angry. Music can make or break something in a movie or it can make you buy something at the store. If you choose to always blare music with violent and sexually explicit subject matter, it can take a toll on you. And you are more likely to do whatever the music is describing. It goes the same way if the music is blaring, suggesting a more positive thing, like enjoying your life or helping others. And that doesn’t mean the music has to be bland or sappy to be a good influence. Those things don’t make music evil. It’s what you say in the music. But there’s a type of music that will never let you down. And that’s the music that worships the Lord, the Author of the universe.

Let’s take a look at these scriptures and what they say about music. And we’ll listen to music after that.

Psalm 150 (King James Version)

Colossians 3:15-17
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
I thought of a song that fits perfect but I just spent about two hours looking for it online and was unsuccessful. If anyone knows about a free online music site with this song, I’d like to know. Anyway, here are the lyrics, which were the part that made song perfect in the first place.

The First Stone lyrics by Dallas Holm

She was led there condemnation
They knew her fate was now insured
As He heard every accusation
Her shame and her guilt endured

They knew death was the right solution
But the Lord had another plan
Take away their righteous illusion
Teach compassion to every man

(Chorus)
You are her accusers
You try to abuse her
You don't know the Holy One
Who of you is worthy
Who will see His glory
Who will throw the first stone

There are none of us here so righteous
That our lives are not marred by sin
Our vain strivings become so pious
We lose touch with the Grace within

Jesus cries for our heartless anger
He once bled just to pay the price
We forget how we once refused love
How we saw life with blinded eyes

We are her accusers
We try to abuse her
We don't know the Holy One
Who of ud is worthy
Who will see His glory
Who will throw the first stone

(Repeat Second Chorus)

lyrics found here.
